Newly launched and operational , Cheaper.com is a site aimed at increasing consumer awareness, when it comes to saving money on online shopping, be it deals on home electronics, tech, audio, video, apparel, beauty, food and grocery, travel etc..
“We’re not your smash and grab typical deal site or blog, where you come online, and buy something completely unsuited to your needs and on impulse, just because it’s a hot deal, or going at a fire sale price. Our aim is to educate the consumer, and make them completely aware of what’s out there, and that really is suited to their needs,” says Raphael Gluck, Director at Cheaper.
Currently, the staff at cheaper.com, scour the web daily, for the best deals, and provide this info to site visitors. But it doesn’t just stop at the deal. Oftentimes a coupon can be added, a combo deal is there to take advantage of, and in many cases, cashback schemes go completely unnoticed by many a consumer, some even believe it’s unethical to tackle a deal from so many angles, making it sweeter, “it’s like stealing” they say.
“Like stealing, only not! The only unethical thing, in the cheaper consumer dictionary, is paying full price” quips Raphael, “there are people out there who must go by some motto, why buy on sale when you can pay full price? “
He goes on to explain, that there are various categories of online shoppers out there, in need of a “cheaper audit” among them, those who think that deals are for selected times of the year, Black Friday, spring/summer sales, Christmas etc.., those who think that deals are only for Items that are being discontinued, or are on the shelf too long , because they are really not that good in any case.
You then have people who think they know what a deal is, because they run a price comparison search. “There’s a lot of good price comparison searching out there, but are people using the right ones? And are they searching the right way? If your deal seems cheaper than the rest, but you lose out on shipping and tax, then maybe this is not the way to go for you, even though 5000 people have given this a 5 star rating. Some of the more high profile price comparison engines don’t seem to be accurate enough quickly enough, and in some cases, an e-commerce store, that’s a complete scam, is allowed to aggregate their prices and catch unwitting consumers, for weeks on end. In extreme cases, Great deals are missed by the price comparison approach as merchants do not want to be automatically aggregated into a price war, ”
What exactly cheaper.com has that’s unique, remains to be seen, but something that’s clearly aimed at a tailor made, custom fit consumer service beckons. “We’ve seen the internet evolve into the online market it is, But It will take time for consumers to adjust to what online shopping can do for you, and how, when used correctly and frequently enough, can change your web shopping experience completely.”
Don’t just buy it because its on 50% sale, don’t enter that credit card info until you’ve put the coupon code for free shipping, don’t press submit until you really know what kind of a deal you’re getting. Check, On Sale? Free Shipping? Coupon Code? Cashback?
